PhD in Biology of Host-Pathogen Relationship from University of São Paulo (2001) and formerly a post-doctoral fellow at the Dept. of Microbiology and Immunology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Research focusing on structural, functional, and evolutionary aspects of bacteria and parasitic protozoa. Main interests include bioinformatics and molecular biology, in particular evolution and genomics. Working mainly on: phylogeny, assembly, analysis and annotation of genomes and transcriptomes (using "next generation" high-throughput methodologies), gene expression analysis (RNA-Seq), use of relational databases for management and presentation of biological data, and computer programming for the analysis of biological data.
