Holds an undergraduate degree in History from the Federal University of Pará (1990), a master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado (1994), a PhD in anthropology from the University of Colorado (2000) and a postdoctoral degree from the University of São Paulo (2011), and at Indiana University (2011). Currently, he is a Doctor Professor at the Institute of Biosciences of the University of São Paulo (USP). He has experience in Anthropology, with emphasis on Ecological and Nutritional Anthropology of riverside populations of Amazonia and Quilombolas from the Southeastern Brazil. In recent years, he has been developing binational collaboration research on the Historical Ecology of the Lambayeque Valley, on the northern coast of Peru. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
