Fernando Segato is an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering of Lorena, University of São Paulo (EEL-USP). Graduated in pharmacy and biochemistry (2002), Ph.D. in genetics and molecular biology of microorganisms from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo (2008) and post-doctorate in biotechnology and development of expression systems from Oklahoma State University, United States, was a researcher in the area of biotechnology at the VTT Technical Research Center of Finland. Has experience in Genetics, with an emphasis on Molecular and Microorganism Genetics, acting on the following topics: filamentous fungi, heterologous expression of proteins of biotechnological and industrial interest, RNA interference, drug resistance, prospecting and characterization of enzymes of interest biotechnology, structural biology, degradation of lignocellulosic materials, proteome and transcriptome of thermophilic microorganisms. In 2014, he was responsible for the Implementation of the research and development line in synthetic and molecular biology in the Department of Biotechnology and since then he has been coordinating the SyMB Lab (https://sites.usp.br/symb/), having participated in some editions iGEM (Genetically Engineering Machines Competition) in Boston, with medals awarded in 2016 and 2018.
