Engineer degree from EPUSP - Escola Politecnica da Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil (1981), M.Eng (1984) and PhD in Control Engineering (1987), both from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. Livre -Docente (1993) from EPUSP in the area of manufacturing automation and robotics. Since 1997 he is full Professor of EPUSP where he was Head of Department, Coordinator of Graduate Program and Chair of the Graduate Committee. He is a senior member of ABCM, SBA, and IEEE. He is currently Associate Editor of the Journal of Control, Automation and Electrical Systems, International Journal of Mechatronics and Applied Mechanics, and member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering after serving as Chief-Editor and Associate Editor. He was also Associate Editor of the journal Automation & Control of the SBA, member of the Board of Directors of the ABCM, SBA, and SBPN. He is the author of the book Programmable Control, published by Editora Edgard Blucher and co-author of Modelling and Analysis of Hybrid Supervisory Systems, published by Springer Verlag and Fault Tolerance in Manufacturing Systems: Applying Petri Nets, published by VDM Verlag. Received awards such as the ABCM Award of Merit and other honors of the community for his work as educator and researcher. He works on Mechatronics Engineering, with emphasis on automation systems and has conducted research and development work in discrete event systems, manufacturing systems, industrial automation, robot programming and design of control systems.
