Prof. Claudio Ruggieri received a Ph.D. degree from Osaka University (Japan) in 1994. He was a research assistant and visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1994 to 1997 working in the fields of fracture mechanics, fatigue, structural integrity and computational mechanics with NASA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commision (NRC). He is currently a Full Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (PNV-EPUSP) of the University of São Paulo and Chair of its Graduate Program. He also holds a B.S. degree in Ocean Engineering and Oil Engineering. Prof. Claudio Ruggieri has published extensively in the areas of fracture mechanics and structural integrity contributing with more than 50 papers in strongly refereed journals and more than 150 articles in national and international conferences. He has also received some research awards, most notably from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and is currently a Research Fellow with the Brazilian Research Council (CNPq 1-A) and an active member of Committee E08 (Fracture and Fatigue) of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as well as member of the Editoria Board of Engineering Fracture Mechanics.
