Graduated in Chemistry from the State University of Londrina in 1985, Master in Analytical Chemistry from UNESP in 1988, and PhD in Chemistry from the State University of Campinas in 1993. He completed his post-doctorate at Lund University (Sweden) in 1997/98. Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences at UNESP-Bauru from 1989 to 1994. He joined Unicamp in 1994 as an Assistant Professor with a PhD, became Associate Professor in 2000, Associate Professor in 2001, and, in 2009, Full Professor at the State University of Campinas. He has published more than 400 articles in specialized journals with selective editorial policy, which have received more than 14,500 citations. He has authored/co-authored 26 patents. He participated in the development of several technological products. He supervised 18 master's theses, 36 doctoral theses, 30 post-doctors, and 25 scientific initiation works in Chemistry. He has received several awards and/or honors, including the Governor of the State of São Paulo for Inventor of the Year in 2000, the Zeferino Vaz Award for Academic Recognition in 2004 and 2023, and the Rheinboldt-Hauptmann Award in 2023. He is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (ACIESP), a Fellow of The World Academy of Science (TWAS), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit in Grand Cross Class. He is an advisor to several national and international funding agencies. He acts as a referee for the main journals in Analytical Chemistry and Electrochemistry. Member of the editorial board of Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, ChemElectroChem, Analytical Methods, Sensors Diagnostics, Electrochemical Sciences Advances, and ACS Measurement Sciences Au. He works in the area of Chemistry, emphasizing Electroanalytics for the development of sensors and biosensors.
