Ricardo Alexandre Ferreira is a Professor of Modern History at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho. He develops research activities related to African slavery and the construction of the Modern State in the Portuguese portions of the Iberian Peninsula and America, between the 17th and 19th centuries. He was Head of the Department of History at UNESP de Franca and editor of the magazine História (São Paulo) at UNESP between 2015 and 2017. He coordinated the Postgraduate Program in History at UNESP (Câmpus de Franca) between 2017 and 2020 and the Postgraduate Program in History at UNESP, arising from the merger of the PPG-History of UNESP de Assis and Franca, in the years 2020 and 2021. He worked, between 2015 and 2021, as the researcher responsible for the subproject Legislation, law and slavery in the Portuguese portion of the Americas: from ordinances to manuals and practical treatises (18th and 19th centuries) which integrated the Thematic Project 'Writings about the new worlds: a history of the construction of moral values in Portuguese', hosted at UNESP and financed by FAPESP (Process 2013/14786-6). He is a researcher at the History Center of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon, where he was a Senior Visiting Professor between August 2022 and January 2023 (CAPES).
