Sergio S. Furuie received Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from Aeronautics Institute of Technology, Brazil, in 1977, M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1980, and Ph.D. degree in electronic systems from University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 1990. He was a visiting scholar at Medical Image Processing Group, University of Pennsylvania, USA, from 1992 to 1994, working with 3D tomographic reconstruction methods and image segmentation. He was head of Research and Development Group of Division of Informatics at Heart Institute from 1995 to 2008. Since 2008, he is full professor at Polytechnic School of Engineering, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His areas of interest include tomography, ultrasound, medical image processing, biological signal processing, and modeling of biological systems. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
