Doctorate in Physical Sciences (Doctorat D'État ès Sciences Physiques - Université Joseph Fourier de Grenoble - 1987). Professor at the University of Grenoble and researcher at the Laboratory of Structural Studies and Selectivity III (09/87 to 07/88). Head of the Synthesis Division at the Research and Development Management of Salgema Indústrias-Química S/A in Maceió/AL (09/89 to 06/95). Full Professor since January 2011. Has published more than 130 scientific papers (HI 38, 4271 citations - Google Scholar). Supervised 50 theses and dissertations, 25 post-doctoral internships, and various undergraduate research projects, both nationally and internationally. Director of the Organic Chemistry Division of the Brazilian Society of Chemistry (2002-2004). Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry at UNICAMP (biennia 2000-2002; 2002-2004; 2006-2008; 2018-2020). Advisor to the Vice Presidency for Research at UNICAMP (quadrennium 2013-2017). Zeferino Vaz Academic Recognition Award (highest distinction in Research at UNICAMP) in 2012. Vice Provost for Extension and Culture at UNICAMP (2021-). Coordinator of the FORPROEX-Southwest. Has expertise in the field of Chemistry, with an emphasis on Organic Synthesis, primarily working on the following topics: Mechanistic studies and synthetic applications of the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Organocatalysis, Asymmetric Synthesis of Biologically Active Drugs and Natural Products, and Chemical Waste Management. In this undergraduate research project, we intend to evaluate the behavior of Morita-Baylis-Hillman in halo-etherification reactions aiming at the formation of polysubstituted 3- and 4-membered heterocycles.
