Felipe Venâncio Barbosa graduated as a Speech and Language Therapist (2001) from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, with specialisation in Activating Change Processes in Higher Education for Health Professionals (2006) from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and a doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences - Human Communication (2007 ) from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. He has postdoctoral studies at the Deafness, Cognition and Language Center (DCAL) at University College London (2012-2013, 2019-2020). Currently is an associate professor in the Department of Linguistics at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo, in the undergraduate and graduate program in Linguistics. He is responsible for the Sign Language and Cognition Research Group (Lisco) at Theorodo Henrique Maurer Laboratory of the Linguistics Department. Dr Barbosa works with Deafness and the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), emphasising studies in Clinical Linguistics, focusing on the description and analysis of atypical understanding and production of sign languages. He also works with the teaching of sign language as a second language and with studies of cognition. He has experience in developing curricula for Libras and Portuguese as a second language for the Deaf. He is mainly interested in the following subjects: deafness, sign language, language, cognition, language disorders in sign language, clinical linguistics, sign language teaching.
