Currently an Associate Professor at the School of Agricultural Engineering, University of Campinas (FEAGRI/UNICAMP), serving as a full faculty member in the Graduate Program in Agricultural Engineering and in the Doctoral Program in Bioenergy (UNICAMP/UNESP/USP). Coordinator of the Laboratory of Biotechnology Applied to Bioenergy and the Environment (BIOMA) and the Interdisciplinary Group on Biotechnology in Agriculture and the Environment (GBMA), and serves as a full member of the Scientific Council of the Interdisciplinary Center for Energy Planning (NIPE). Research areas include: chemical and biochemical engineering, biotechnology, anaerobic digestion, biofuels, fermentation products, biomass pyrolysis, and biological removal of inorganic compounds from wastewater. He is a member of the International Water Association (IWA), the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) and the Brazilian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (ABES).
