Professor Claudio Manoel Rodrigues de Melo, has Undergraduate and Master?s degrees in Animal Science from the Federal University of Lavras (1999), and a Doctorate degree in Animal Science and Pastures from the University of São Paulo (2003). He is currently a Professor at the Department of Aquaculture at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). He has experience in Animal Science and Aquaculture, with an emphasis on genetics and animal breeding. He works on the following subjects: estimation of variance components and genetic parameters, analysis of gene expression, breeding and larviculture of molluscs. He has been a coordinator of 20 research projects and is presently a coordinator of a project on the genetic improvement and reproduction of molluscs in Brazil. He is an ?ad hoc consultant? for CAPES, CNPq and FINEP (three important scientific funding agencies in Brazil). Since 2011, he has been the Supervisor of the Laboratory of Marine Molluscs at UFSC. From 2006 to 2010, he was coordinator of the Aquaculture Postgraduate Program (UFSC), and currently he is an advisor of this program. He was a member of the CAPES Postgraduate Course Evaluation Committee in the area of Animal Science and Fisheries Resources in between 2011-2014, 2016-2017 and 2020-2021. He is an associate editor of the Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia and a member of the Sectorial Chamber of Mariculture of Santa Catarina. He is the leader of the Malacoculture research group of the Directory of Research Groups in Brazil in the area of Fisheries Resources and Fisheries Engineering. He is currently sub-coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Aquaculture at UFSC. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
