Marcel is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Sao Paulo. He graduated in 2013 as a PhD in Combinatorics and Optimization at the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization of the University of Waterloo, where he was supervised by Levent Tunçel. This was followed by two post-doctoral fellowships in each of the aforementioned departments. His main research area is combinatorial optimization, especially in the development of new techniques involving semidefinite programming and the Lovász theta number. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
