Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Química (IQ) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
I obtained my PhD in Life Science at Sao Paulo University, Brazil, with a one-year exchange position in the group of Prof. Orian Shirihai, at Boston University, where I remained for 2 years of post-doctoral training. Metabolism has being my focus since my PhD, where I investigated the effects of nutrients on cellular metabolism, cell signaling and ageing. My passion for metabolism and bioenergetics lead me to further explore the subject during my post-doctoral studies. In 2014, I began a Research Associate position at the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev, Israel. I was responsible for developing high-content screening for compounds which enhance mitochondrial turnover in beta-cells, successfully done in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science. Then in 2016, I spent four months at Padova University, Italy, as a visiting scientist in the group of Prof. Luca Scorrano, validating some of my results in D. melanogaster model of Parkinson`s Disease, where, again, collaboration with other scientists made the few months I spent there very productive.
