Cristiana Simão Seixas, is a Biologist and holds a Master degree in Ecology from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Manitoba (2002), Canada. Since 2008, she is a researcher at the Environmental Studies and Research Centre (NEPAM) at Unicamp, being its current Associate Director. She also co-coordinates the Commons Conservation and Management research group (CGCommons) and the Ecology and Ecosystem Management Laboratory (LEME). Between 2009 and 2019, She was Adjunct Professor (2009-2019) at the Natural Resources Institute, University of Manitoba, Canada, and a Visiting Scholar (2018-2019) and Adjunct Scholar (2020-2022) at the Department of Resources Economics and Environmental Sociology (REES), Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Seixas collaborates with the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), where served at diverse roles including Co-Chair of the 1st IPBES Regional Assessment for the Americas. She was also a member of the Steering Committee (2016-2022) and of the Scientific-technical Board (since 2022) of the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (www.bpbes.net.br) and collaborates with several national and international research and extension networks, with emphasis on the Community Conservation Research Network (CCRN) and the Science and Society Coalition. She is member of the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses on integrating environmental conservation with local development, through the following themes: commons management, shared management, ecosystem stewardship and environmental governance; human ecology, local and traditional ecological knowledge, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and resilience of socio-ecological systems.
