Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Geociências (IGC)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Geologist graduated at the University of São Paulo (USP, 1982), holds Masters (1987) and Ph.D. (1993) in Geosciences (Sedimentary Geology) by the same university. After starting his professional career in the Coal Project of the IPT-USP agreement (São Paulo, 1983) and in the technological characterization sector of Paulo Abib Engenharia (São Paulo, 1984-1987), he became a professor-researcher in the Department of Geology at the Federal University of Paraná (Curitiba, 1988-1997) and, then, at the Geosciences Institute of the USP, where he obtained the titles of Associate Professor (2007) and Full Professor (2013). He works in the area of sedimentary and environmental geology, with focuses on sedimentology, sedimentary petrography and on Quaternary coastal geology. His main lines of research are: analysis of sedimentary dispersion, provenance and paleogeography based on vector (paleoflow) and scalar (facies, textures, heavy minerals, petrography) properties; analysis of facies and Quaternary depositional systems, with emphasis on coastal and eolian systems; beach-dune interactions; reconstitution of the variation of the relative sea level in the Holocene; and geoarchaeology, especially constitution, stratigraphy and time-space distribution of shell mounds. He also has experience in sediment mineralogy and grinding products, focused on characterization for mining and industrial uses. He served as coordinator of the Geology course (2014-2016) and as deputy director of the Institute of Geosciences at USP (2015-2019). He has been a CNPq (official Brazilian research foundation) productivity fellow since 2007. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
