Marcelo Amaral holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from UFRJ's Institute of Economics, a master's and doctorate in Production Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ, and a post-doctorate from USP's Polytechnic School. He was a visiting professor at North Carolina State University, a visiting researcher at Research Triangle Park, and visiting researcher at La Salle - Universidad Ramon Llull. A specialist in Innovation Project Management, certified by the International Association of Innovation Professionals (IAOIP), he worked between 1999 and 2006 in institutions such as the Electric Energy Research Center (CEPEL), the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN) and the Centre for Mining Technology (CETEM). He was a businessman, having been a partner in the companies CAN Eventos (1993-1996), AMG Research Project (1999-2024), Rio BMF (Mr Quandt) (2004) and iSzabo Consulting (2007-2012); and a consultant for companies and regional development projects. He joined the Administration Department of the Institute of Human and Social Sciences (www.ichs.uff.br) at the Fluminense Federal University in 2006 and is currently a full professor. He teaches at the CEDERJ Consortium, various executive education courses, and is accredited for the Postgraduate Programme in Administration (PPGA) and the Doctorate Program in Law, Institutions and Business (PPGDIN). Between 2009 and 2010 he worked at the International Institute of Triple Helix, in Madrid, Spain, where he organized the VIII Triple Helix Conference. From 2011 and 2014 he was dean of ICHS/UFF, vice-dean between 2015 and 2017 and dean again between 2017 and 2019. Between 2021 and 2023 he was a member of the scientific committee of ANPAD's innovation and entrepreneurship (ITE) area, and is currently a theme leader. The researcher has 30 years of experience in research, having integrated and coordinated research projects funded by FAPERJ, CNPQ, CAPES, FAPESP, FINEP, NSF and DIKU. Since 2008 he has led the Triple Helix Research Group (www.triple-helix.uff.br) and has more than 100 publications, as well as being a journal reviewer and member of various scientific and editorial committees. He is associate editor of the International Journal of Innovation Science, former editor-in-chief and current associate editor of the Review of Administration, Society and Innovation (RASI) and co-editor-in-chief of the Triple Helix Journal. He is a member of the International Society for Professional Innovation (ISPIM) and the Triple Helix Association (THA). He was a member of the THA Executive Committee between 2018 and 2021 and interim vice-president in 2021. He is interested in innovation management, specifically in topics such as business strategy, entrepreneurship, project management, industrial property law, economic development, science, technology and innovation policies, innovation environments (such as incubators, hubs and technology parks), generation and transfer of knowledge and technology, and the Triple, Quadruple and Quintuple Helix approaches.
