Raquel de Lima Camargo Giordano is Full Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), where she works since 1980. She graduated in Chemical Engineering (Bachelor, MSc and PhD) in the University of São Paulo Polytechnic School, and was pos-doctorate fellow at MIT (Biochemical Engineering). Her research activities focus on different areas of Biochemical Engineering: enzyme immobilization, enzymatic reactors, production of proteins with wild and recombinant microorganisms, non-conventional bioreactors, bioseparations. She is interested in biotechnological industrial processes for: production and separation of recombinant penicillin G acylase (PGA); immobilization and industrial application of several enzymes, such as PGA, proteases, lipases, celullases, xylanases; production and separation of penicillin G; synthesis of semi-synthetic beta-lactam antibiotics; transformation of proteic residues from the agro-industry; biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel).
