Graduated in Medicine at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo (1988) and Ph.D. in Medicine (Internal Medicine) at the University of São Paulo (1993). He is currently a Full Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of São Paulo. Has experience in Medicine, with an emphasis on Geriatrics, acting on the following topics: aging, geriatrics, epidemiology and nutrition (body composition, energy and protein metabolism, through the use of stable isotopes and mass spectrometry), frailty syndrome, sarcopenia and intrinsic capacity. He is coordinator of NAPENV - Research Center on Aging and the Aged of the University of São Paulo and coordinator of the research line "Intrinsic Capacity, Frailty and Sarcopenia in Aging" of the Medical Research Laboratory on Aging (LIM-66) at the Clinics Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine - USP.
