Alexandre Faisal Cury

Alexandre Faisal Cury is a physician, gynecologist, and epidemiologist. He graduated in Medicine from the School of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo in 1984, where he also earned a masters degree in Medicine, with a concentration in Obstetrics and Gynecology, in 1997. He received his PhD in Medicine from the University of São Paulo in 2001 and completed postdoctoral training at the Epidemiology Center of the University Hospital of the University of São Paulo in 2005. He also received training in Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics at Instituto Sedes Sapientiae.Since 2009, he has been a Research Scientist in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of São Paulo Medical School, where he is involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and the supervision of undergraduate research, masters, and doctoral students. He is an accredited supervisor in the Graduate Program in Public Health at the University of São Paulo Medical School, in the field of Epidemiology, working primarily in psychiatric epidemiology and mental health, as well as maternal and child health and life-course epidemiology.His research focuses on epidemiology and womens health throughout the life course, with an emphasis on perinatal mental health, depression, violence against women, sexuality, marital relationships, loneliness, and the psychosocial determinants of health and illness. He conducts population-based studies, longitudinal investigations, and randomized clinical trials. He also coordinates and supervises research on Integrative and Complementary Health Practices, including studies on the effectiveness, safety, and implementation of non-pharmacological interventions. Among his recent work, he coordinated a multicenter clinical trial of auricular acupuncture for depression, published in JAMA Network Open.His scholarly output includes more than 80 scientific articles, two books, and 11 book chapters. According to Web of Science data retrieved in March 2026, he has 75 indexed publications, 1,185 citations, and an h-index of 20. He is the author of the books Ginecologia Psicossomática and Segredos de Mulher: diálogos entre o ginecologista e o psicanalista.He is also engaged in science communication and public engagement.
