She holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of São Paulo, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto (FCFRP-USP, 1990), and a Ph.D. in Sciences (Organic Chemistry) from the Federal University of São Carlos (1997), Brazil. She conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos, USP (19971998, supervisor Glaucius Oliva), and at the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Harvard Medical School, USA (20062007, supervisor Jon Clardy).She is a Full Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, where she began her academic career in 1998 as an Assistant Professor. In 2009, she became an Associate Professor and subsequently advanced through the career progressions to Associate-2 and Associate-3 levels. She advises undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students and supervises postdoctoral fellows. She coordinates and has coordinated research projects funded by FAPESP, CAPES-DGU, and CNPq, including international collaborations. She led an international Thematic Project funded by FAPESP (BIOprospecTABIOTA) and FICNIH (20142020), which enabled the establishment in Brazil of the first ICBG International Cooperative Biodiversity Group, in collaboration with Harvard Medical School and the University of WisconsinMadison (USA). She also coordinated a CNPq/MS/NIH project with Northeastern University (Boston, USA) focused on antibiotic discovery, and a SPRINT-FAPESP project with Texas Tech University. She participates in other collaborative projects, including CEPIDCIBFar (FAPESP), and has been a principal investigator in two Thematic Projects of the Bioprospecta Network, BIOTA-FAPESP Program, and the INCT-INBEQMeDI network. Since December 2024, she has also been affiliated with the Institute of Physics of São Carlos (IFSCUSP), where she serves as Deputy Coordinator of the Research and Innovation Center in Drug Discovery Sciences (CEPIMED), one of USPs Special Research and Innovation Centers (CEPIx). She serves as a reviewer for several international journals. She has been Associate Editor of Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society (20102014, SBQ), Scientific Reports (20182020, Springer-Nature), and mSystems (20152023, American Society for Microbiology). She has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy since January 2020, acted as Guest Editor for a special issue of Frontiers in Microbiology (20202021), and served as a Guest Member of the Annual Review of Microbiology Editorial Board (2023).She was Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences (FCFRPUSP, CAPES grade 7) from 2012 to 2014, having previously served as Deputy Coordinator for three years. She was Vice-Chair of the Graduate Committee (CPG) of FCFRPUSP from June 2016 to January 2018, and later served as Chair of the CPG for two consecutive terms (20182020 and 20202022). She was also a member of the Evaluation Chamber (CaA) and the Graduate Council (CoPGr) of USPs Office of Graduate Studies (February 2018 to January 2022). She also served as a consultant for the Chemistry area during the 2021 CAPES Graduate Program Evaluation (20172020 cycle). She is currently Deputy Director of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto (term 20222026). She has delivered numerous lectures at national and international events.
