Graduated in Agronomy at University of São Paulo (1985), master's in Agronomy (Plant Genetics and Breeding) at the University of São Paulo (1993) and Ph.D. in Evolution, Ecology and Population Biology at Washington University in Saint Louis, USA (2002). He is currently a doctor assistant professor (level 2) at the University of São Paulo. Acted as President of the CENA-ESALQ (USP) Interunity Graduate Commission and also as Coordinator of the CENA/ESALQ (USP) Interunity Graduate Program in Applied Ecology (2017-2021), the first level-7 (top level in the CAPES rank) graduate program in the area of Environmental Sciences in the country. Has experience in Genetics, with emphasis on Evolution, acting mainly on the following subjects: evolution, ecological genetics of plant natural populations; conservation biology and plant reproduction, using techniques such as molecular phylogenies, microscopy and molecular markers. Species studied are chosen according to two different criteria not mutually excluding: (a) native plants of economic use or relatives of species of economic use; and (b) plants which, for their biological characteristics, lend themselves in a special manner to the study of hypotheses or phenomena important for theory building in the area.
