Leonardo de Assis holds a PhD in Physiology by the University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil) and has postdoctoral experience at the same University from April of 2019 until October of 2020. In his PhD, he explored the functionality of the photosensitive system (opsins) and its relationship with the molecular clock of the skin and in cutaneous melanoma. He currently holds a position of research associate at the University of Lübeck in Dr. Henrik Oster?s group working in an interdisciplinary research consortium named Local Control of Thyroid Hormone Action (LOCOTACT), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). His research interests are the role of the molecular clock regulating the physiological systems and how its deregulation contributes to the development of diseases, ultimately aiming to find new therapeutic targets.
