SeniorCollaborating Researcher at the Biology Institute of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Full Professor from the Surgical Science Post Graduation Discipline of the Faculty of Medical Science Surgery Department and also a member of the Interdisciplinary Group of Regenerative Medicine. Auditor in Cell Therapy certified by AABB-ABHH and certified in entrepreneurship by Babson College, Boston, MA. During the period of 1988 to 2019 has worked as full-time assistant physician and Director of the Transfusion Medicine Service and the Cell Processing Laboratory (Umbilical Cord Blood Bank and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Cryopreservation Laboratory), at the Hematology Hemotherapy Centre, was a member of the liver transplantation team and was responsible for the installation of the Umbilical Cord Blood Bank (BSCUP). The Medical degree was performed at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Jundiaí. Have performed the medical residence in Internal Medicine in the Clinical Hospital of Jundiaí Faculty of Medical Sciences and the Hematology Hemotherapy residence in the University of São Paulo, Faculty of Medical Sciences Clinical Hospital at Hematology Division. The Master and PhD degree were carried out in the field of biology and cell therapy of umbilical cord blood stem cells, by the Clinical Medicine Department of the Faculty of Medical Science, UNICAM. The Human Umbilical Cord Blood Bank training was performed at the Hôpital Saint Louis, Paris. The liver transplantation transfusion medicine fellowship was carried on in the Liver Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK, and at the National Blood Service Birmingham Center. Perform research in the regenerative medicine field. The research are carried out in partnership with researchers from Renato Archer CTI, FMC-UNICAMP (Gastrosurgery Department, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Ophtalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Urology, Neurosurgery, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Pathological Anatomy) and other Institutes of the University (Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Chemistry, Physics, Biology). Great part of the research is performed with stromal mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from umbilical cord blood, adipose tissue, bone marrow, umbilical cord blood mononucleated cells and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). The stem cells biocompatibility with some biomaterials manufactured by the engineering group is under analysis. Projects related to in vitro differentiation to chondrogenic, osteogenic, hepatocytic, neuronal lineages and also to pancreatic beta cells from adipose tissue MSCs were successfully performed, also in preclinical experiments. Two licensed patents related to a fibrin glue that allows the MSCs? attachment in suture filaments were achieved, that provided a complete regeneration of enterocutaneous fistula, tracheal injury, and urethral stenosis in animal models (rat, pig, and rabbit). A bio-curative with Poli L Latic Acid (PLLA) embedded in MSCs that support being sutured with the MSCs filaments improving the healing was also patented. Experiments with graphene oxide embedded with MSCs that can be also sutured were also performed. PRP was well characterized and standardized by the group. Its biocompatibility with some scaffolds due to lead a better stem cells (MSCs) proliferation was analyzed as also the capacity of allow differentiation into another lineage in these scaffolds. PRP capacity of analgesia, to induce tissue regeneration (neuronal repair), and also the cytotoxicity and immunomodulation capacities in a bladder cancer animal model was demonstrated. The engagement on the Franco-Brazilian Chair 2018 version, allowed a month program in the BIOCONNECT Laboratory at the University of Caen, Normandy. The aim was improving a partnership between the two Universities in the regenerative medicine field, giving class in the Biology postgraduate course, and being part of the PhD defense evaluation panel of a post-graduated st (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
