Ariaster Chimeli has a bachelor´s degree in economics from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1993), master´s (1995) and Ph.D. degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2001) and was a post-doctoral research fellow at Columbia University (2001-2003. He is currently a full professor at Faculdade de Economia, Administração e Contabilidade (FEA) at University of São Paulo. He taught at Ohio University, Columbia University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before joining the department of economics at FEA-USP. Professor Chimeli specializes in economics, with focus on environmental economics. His research includes work in the following topics: environment and development economics, tropical deforestation, climate variability and change, renewable energy, air pollution and the environmental Kuznets Curve.
