PhD in Meteorology from the National Institute for Space Research INPE. Bachelor's degree in Meteorology from the University of São Paulo. He was General Coordinator of Earth Sciences at INPE and General Coordinator of the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC) at INPE. Researcher at the Earth System Modeling Division (DIMNT) of CPTEC/CGCT/INPE, where he researches the impacts of land-use changes and global warming on local, regional, and global climate using general atmospheric circulation models, Earth system models, and dynamic vegetation models. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Interministerial Committee on Climate Change, the Scientific Committee of the LBA Program - Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia, and the Scientific Committee of the Congo Basin Science Initiative. He is the vice-coordinator of the Science and Innovation Committee of the World Meteorological Organization's Regional Association III. He was coordinator of the Climate Modeling sub-network of the Brazilian Network for Climate Change Research (Rede Clima). Author of books on climate change and on the El Niño and La Niña phenomena. He has several publications of international and national scientific articles. Professor in the Postgraduate Program in Earth System Science at CCST/INPE. Has experience in the field of Geosciences, with an emphasis on Meteorology, mainly working on the following topics: Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions, Climate Modeling, Climate Forecasting, Studies of Climatic Phenomena, Climate Studies, Climate Change and Paleoclimatology.
