Ricardo Gazzinelli is Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Senior Investigator at the René Rachou Institute from Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS), and CNPq Researcher. He has done important contributions in the area of innate immunity and CD8+ T cells in infections with protozoan parasites. He is the Director of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Vaccines/MCT, and has contributed for the development of vacines against neglected diseases, which include Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, and malaria. He is member of the Brazilian National Academy of Sciences, the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and has been awarded with the following Prizes and Honors: Biotechnology Fellowship from Rockefeller Foundation (1995-1998); Fundep Award, Biomedical Sciences (2002); fellowship from John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (2004); prêmio CAPES/ELSEVIER; TWAS award, Medical Sciences; Marcos Mares-Guia award, FAPEMIG/SESTEC (2009); Commandeer (2007) and Grand-Croix (2010) from the Ministry of Science and Technology; Grand Award CAPES for Thesis (Supervisor) - Biological Sciences; Chair CAPES/Harvard (2013-2014); Award Santander University, area Biotechnology (2013); Péter Murányi Award, Inovation in Medicine (2014); the Bunge Award for prevention of infectious diseases (2021); and Confap Award, Life Sc iences (2021).
