Felipe Calil is Bachelor in technological chemistry from the Centro Universitário da Fundação Educacional de Barretos, Brazil (2011). He received his Master in Sciences degree by the University of São Paulo, Brazil in the Chemistry department from the School of Philosophy, Sciences and Linguistic of Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP), working with immobilized enzymes in capillary to the screening of selective inhibitors (2014). Recently received his Doctor in Sciences Degree by the University of Sao Paulo, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, working with drug repositioning using antimalarial drugs for selective inhibition of the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase from Schistosoma mansoni. During both his master and PhD projects, Felipe has worked with enzymes from organisms that cause neglected tropical diseases, such as Leishmaniasis, Schistosomiasis and Chagas' disease. Over the past years, Felipe has been exposed to several biochemical and biophysical techniques including cloning, recombinant expression and protein purification, DLS, ITC, CD, DSF, and crystallography (exploited in the structural characterization of the protein targets, as well as for characterizing the binding mechanism of selective inhibitors). Felipe now is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (University of California, San Diego) working on the biochemistry of DNA mismatch repair.
