Ricardo José Gonzaga Pimenta

Bachelor of Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), with a sandwich period at the University of York (United Kingdom). He was an undergraduate student at the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Markers, where he developed a research project investigating the resistance of the yellow scorpion Tityus serrulatus to environmental stresses and participated in mtDNA studies. He carried out a research project and summer internship at the Center for Novel Agricultural Products (University of York, United Kingdom) using associative transcriptomics in the identification of genes involved in the determination of quantitative characters in rapeseed (Brassica napus). At the Population Genetics Laboratory, he worked with phylogeography and genetic diversity of the vineyard (Plathymenia reticulata). In 2018, he started his PhD in the postgraduate program in Genetics and Molecular Biology at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), under supervision of Prof. Anete Pereira de Souza and co-supervision of Dr. Luciana Rossi Pinto and Dr. Marcos Cesar Gonçalves, where he investigates sugarcane resistance to sugarcane yellow leaf virus and sugarcane mosaic virus using genome-wide association mapping and transcriptomics. Currently, he is a Visiting Research Student at the University of Warwick Crop Centre, exploring rapeseed resistance to turnip mosaic virus under the supervision of Prof. John Walsh.
