Laura Valente de Macedo is a post-doctoral fellow in public administration at GV Foundation´s school of Business in São Paulo. She has a PhD (2017) and an MSc (2000) from the University of São Paulo´s Environmental Science Program at the Institute of Energy and Environment (PROCAM/IEE-USP). She also has a master's degree in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford (1998). She graduated as an architect and town planner from Mackenzie University, in São Paulo, in December 1980. Laura is an expert in sustainability policies and management, having worked as an independent consultant and team member in projects for several institutions such as the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Brazilian chapter of the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (CEBDS) and the World Bank, among others since February 2012. She also participates as a collaborator, author, co-author and editor in several publications since 2000. She is a collaborator in her personal capacity in expert committees, such as the Brazilian Climate Change Panel (PBMC), and in the IES-Brasil project on developing mitigation scenarios for Brazil 2030/2050, coordinated by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro´s post graduate department of Engineering (COPPE/UFRJ). During the year 2013, she was the Chairperson of Greenpeace Brazil´s Board of Directors. From May 2011 to January 2012, she was the director for Sustainable Production and Consumption at the Ministry of Environment in Brazil, where she coordinated the final version of the Action Plan on Sustainable Production and Consumption, launched in 23 November 2011. In September 2002 she was hired by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) as its Cities for Climate Protection campaign coordinator for South America, and in March 2003 became the regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean (ICLEI-LACS), where she remained until March 2011. She was a coordinator of the Brazilian Climate Change Forum (FBMC) from August 2000 to July 2002. Between 1992 and 2002, Laura worked as a cabinet advisor to Congressman Fabio Feldmann, including during the period 1995-1997, when he was the state Secretary of Environment of São Paulo.
