Rita Santos Guimarães

Rita holds a bachelor's and a teaching degree in Mathematics from the State University of Campinas - Unicamp (2005/2006) and a professional master's degree in the Postgraduate Program in Teaching Exact Sciences at the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar (2010). She completed her doctorate (PhD) in Education at the University of Nottingham, in the United Kingdom (2019), researching mathematics teachers' professional development. She was a FAPESP postdoctoral fellow at Imecc/Unicamp (2019-2023), with a project on dropout rates in the mathematics teachers' training program at Unicamp. Rita has extensive teaching experience, having worked as a mathematics teacher in elementary, middle and higher education. She participated in several continuing education courses for teachers who teach mathematics (from the Early Years to High School). She participated as an online supervisor in the REDEFOR program, in the specialization course for mathematics teachers in the São Paulo state. She also worked as a supervisor for writing experiments in the M3 Multimedia Mathematics project (m3.ime.unicamp.br). She developed several courses for mathematics teachers at MAIS (www.mais.mat.br). She was a visiting professor at CMCC at the Federal University of ABC (2023-2024). She is currently a professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo - IME/USP and a collaborating researcher at IMECC/Unicamp with a project called "Improving Public Education" funded by FAPESP, entitled "Continuing education for teachers who teach mathematics and its impact on student learning."
