Thauany Freire is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Human Geography of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. Her research has also been granted a FAPESP scholarship (20/06119-3). Since her undergraduate studies, she has been addressing the nexus between displacements, the outgrowth of new housing modalities, and today's urban capitalist reproduction. Currently, she is a visiting scholar at the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics, conducting research funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) at the Graduate Center (City University of New York) under the supervision of Professor Ruth Wilson Gilmore. In 2023, she started being a member of the Observatory of Migrations - São Paulo. Since 2010, she has been a fellow in the research group "Geografia urbana: a vida cotidiana e o urbano, which is based in the LABUR (Urban Geography Lab of the Universidade de São Paulo), coordinated by Amelia Luisa Damiani and Odette Seabra. She graduated from the Universidade de São Paulo in 2009, and she completed part of her studies at Université Paris Est Marne La Vallée in 2012, with funding from The Academic Merit Scholarship Program of the University of São Paulo. She holds a master's degree in Human Geography (2018), funded by CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), through which she investigated the social and spatial outcomes of housing policies implemented in downtown São Paulo throughout the 2000s.
