Cristiano Bonato Both has been a professor at the Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) since 2019, working in the Graduate Program in Applied Computing (PPGCA). He is also a visiting researcher at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) through the SMARTNESS Engineering Research Center in partnership with Ericsson. In addition, he serves as a consultant for the National Education and Research Network (RNP) in the areas of 5G/6G networks and Open RAN. Cristiano earned his PhD in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in 2011, during which he completed a research internship at the University of Pisa, Italy. He also holds a masters degree from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), awarded in 2003.With a robust network of national and international collaborations, Cristiano works with universities and institutions such as UFG, UFPA, UFRGS, UFMG, UFES, USP, Virginia Tech (USA), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), University of Leeds (UK), Ericsson (Finland), and Telefónica (Spain). These partnerships have resulted in research projects, student supervision, courses, scientific events, journal editions, and high-impact joint publications.Currently, Cristiano coordinates the GT-Plateou project for RNP and the Innova Center of Excellence for 5G/6G networks, funded by FINEP. He is also involved in seven research projects supported by institutions such as FAPESP, MCTI, and RNP. Among these, the PORVIR-5G project, focused on network programmability and virtualization, and the Brazil 6G Phase 3 project, which explores advancements in sixth-generation technology, stand out. He also leads research on the integration of open and disaggregated networks, such as Open RAN, with a strong emphasis on virtualization, SDN, and artificial intelligence.Internationally recognized, Cristiano is a reference in wireless networks and mobile technologies, with significant contributions to the evolution of telecommunications networks, virtualization, and disaggregated networks. His dedication to technological advancement and the training of new talent solidifies his position as one of the leading researchers in the field of 5G/6G networks and Open RAN.
