Natural of Passos, MG, Brazil, is an electrical engineer from the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG (1975), master in Computer Science from UFMG (1979) and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Campinas - Unicamp (1985). Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science at UFMG. He did a postdoctoral year at the University of British Columbia (UBC, Canada, 1988-89) and spent his sabbatical at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Univ. Paris 6), France (2004-05). He was head of the DCC/UFMG, chair of the Post-Graduation Program in Computer Science at UFMG (2009-2012) and coordinator of the bachelor's degree in Computer Science at UFMG. Replaced the Rector and Vice-Rector of UFMG for up to 3 months in 2017/2. His areas of interest are computer networks, network management, wireless sensor networks, mobile computing, internet of things and delay-tolerant networks. Has experience in software development projects, particularly network management and supervision. He directed around 45 masters, thirteen doctoral students and three postdoctoral students. He regularly publishes in international journals and proceedings of national and international conferences. It is an active member of the national and international communities of computer networks/telcomunication and network and services management. He participates regularly of several technical events organization committees, having been general coordinator of: IEEE / IFIP NOMS 2008, LANOMS 2001, SBRC 1995, SBSeg 2014, SEMISH 2018. He coordinated the program committee of SBRCs 1999 and 2004. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
