Presently Full Professor at the Biology Institute, University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Campinas, Brazil. Research interests are focused on sugarcane functional genomics related to abiotic stress and sucrose accumulation. Published 58 scientific papers and supervised 23 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students. Coordinator of a network of six Brazilian universities aiming the study of drought tolerance in sugarcane. Director of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, Inova UNICAMP Innovation Agency (2008-2010). Member of the Council for Biotechnology Information (2004 present). Member of the biosafety commission of the Brazilian Society of Genetics (2004-2008). Member of the working group on intellectual property in the FAPESP Bioenergy Program (BIOEN).
