Maria Cristina Ferreira de Oliveira holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of São Paulo (1985) and a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Wales, Bangor, UK (1990). She has been a Lecturer at the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Science at the University of São Paulo (Department of Computer Science) since 1986, as a Full Professor since 2008. At ICMC, she coordinated the Graduate Program in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics in the biennia 1997-1998 and 2005-2006, and was Head of the Department of Computer Science (SCC) from March 2010 to February 2014. She was Director of ICMC from July 2018 to July 2022, and Deputy Director at period from July 2014 to July 2018. She is a member of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), having been editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS) from 2008 to 2013 and a member of the editorial board until 2021. She served in the SBC Board during the 2014-2017 quadrennium. She works in the area of Computer Science, with an emphasis on Methodology and Computer Techniques, in research projects that currently focus on the following topics: information visualization, scientific visualization, visual data mining, visual data analysis. In partnership with colleagues from ICMC, he consolidated the research group on Visualization, Images and Computer Graphics, which was one of the precursors in the implementation of research in the Visualization area in Brazil. This group pioneered the use of information visualization in areas of physics and materials science, mainly with application in the analysis of data collected from sensors and biosensors. She is an ad hoc advisor for the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, for the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and for the Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo, and currently a member of the CA-CC of CNPq.
