M.C.F. Oliveira holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, University of São Paulo (1985) and PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Wales, Bangor, UK (1990). She is a faculty member of the Institute of Mathematical and Computation Sciences of the University of São Paulo (Department of Computer Science) since 1986, where she is a Full Professor since 2008. At ICMC, she coordinated the Graduate Program in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics ICMC, in the bienniums 1997-1998 and 2005-2006, and Head of the Department of Computer Science (SCC) from March 2010 to February 2014. She is currently the Director (Dean) of ICMC, and was vice-director from July 2014 to July 2018. She is a member of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), having acted as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS) from 2008 to 2013 and member of the SBC Council in the four-year period 2014-2017. She is currently a member of the JBCS editorial board. She is an ad hoc advisor to the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo. She works in Computer Science, with emphasis on Methodology and Computer Techniques, in research projects that currently focus on the following topics: information visualization, scientific visualization, visual data mining, visual data analysis. In partnership with colleagues from ICMC she consolidated the research group on Visualization, Images and Computer Graphics, which was one of the early research groups in Data Visualization in Brazil. In recent years this group pioneered the use of information visualization in fields of applied physics and materials science, mainly with application in analysis of data measurements from sensors and biosensors.
