Karina holds a degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2005), a master's (2009) and a doctorate's (2014) degree in Social Anthropology at the Federal University of São Carlos. She had a postdoctoral fellowship at the State University of Campinas (2016) and the Federal University of São Carlos (2017). She is currently an assistant professor at the State University of Maranhão. She is also a researcher at Hybris (Group of Study and Research on Power Relations, Conflicts, Socialities) and NEIP (Center for Interdisciplinary Studies on Psychoactive). She has experience in Anthropology, with emphasis on Political Anthropology. She wrote Junto e Misturado: uma etnografia do PCC, which had its English version published by the University of North Carolina Press under the title Sharing This Walk: An Ethnography of Prison Life and the PCC in Brazil.
