Works in the field of Cellular Immunology, focusing on the inflammatory response triggered by intracellular protozoan infections. Experienced with in vitro and in vivo models of Toxoplasma gondii and Trypanosoma cruzi infection, investigating inflammasome activation and effector mechanisms, particularly those mediated by gasdermin D (GSDMD). Skilled in cell and molecular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture (primary macrophages and cell lines), experimental infection, immunofluorescence and fluorescence/confocal microscopy, western blotting, and ELISA. Inflammasomes are multiprotein cytoplasmic complexes capable of activating caspase-1, which in turn cleaves pro-IL-1 beta, pro-IL-18 and Gasdermin-D (GDSMD).
