He obtained the title of Doctor of Science, specialization in Anatomy, Morphofunctional Sciences Program, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo in December 1984. Specialist in neuroanatomy from UNICAMP in July 1985. Assistant professor and Doctor Assistant at the of Department of Morphological Sciences from 1979 to 1985 at FAMEMA. Assistant Professor of the Dept. of Anatomy ICB/USP from 1986 to 1993. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla, California, USA (1988-1990) under the supervision of Prof. Paul E. Sawchenko. Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (IPMC CNRS) Dec/1995 to Feb/1996, Sophia-Antipolis, Valbonne, France. Took the exam of Associated Professor of Neuroanatomy area in 1993 receiving the title of Associate Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences/USP. Visiting Researcher at the Laboratory of Neuronal Structure and Function (Salk Institute, La Jolla, California, USA) under the direction of Prof. Paul E. Sawchenko since 1990. He assumed the position of Professor of the Department of Anatomy ICB/USP in 1998. Deputy Head of the Department of Anatomy of ICB/USP from 1997 to 1999. Deputy Director of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences 08/2001 to 09/2005. Coordinator of the Graduate Program Functional Anatomy: Structure and Ultra-Structure 08/2003 to 10/2005. Head of the Department of Anatomy ICB/USP in the periods of 2006-2008 and 2008-2010. Member of the Committee of Morphology Biological Sciences Committee II), CAPES from 2001 to 2005. CNPq Coordinator of the Morphology Committee from 11/2006 to 10/2007. Coordinator of the Neuroscience Center and Behavior of the Institute of Psychology, University of São Paulo, from 03/2007 to 03/2009. Currently being Researcher level 1B of CNPq. Full Advisor of the Morphofunctional Sciences at the Department of Anatomy ICB/USP and the Center for Neuroscience and Behavior, Institute of Psychology / USP.
