Birthplace: Brazil

Currently I am visiting postdoctoral researcher at Natural Hazards Center, University of Colorado - Boulder, with the support of Fapesp. I am PI of COPE Project, which is analysing the capacities of organizations to cope with extreme events. Between 2020 and 2021, I was the PI of ELOS Project, which analyzed the capacities and needs of municipal civil defense units in Brazil, as requested by the National Civil Defense (with the support of UNDP). Over the past 18 years I have studied the sociology of disasters. I have experience in international projects related to disaster science and climate change adaptation, with 50 articles and 10 books published in the last five years. I have experience in coordinating international networks of researchers, please see the free e-book project ?Reduction of Vulnerability to Disasters: from knowledge to action?, which involved 87 researchers from 12 countries, represented by 28 chapters in English, Spanish and Portuguese (https://preventionroutes.weebly.com/capiacutetuloschapters.html). I am also affiliate researcher of the Warning Research Center/University College London and member of Research Committee "Sociology of Disaster" (RC 39), in the International Sociological Association (ISA) (https://www.isa-sociology.org/en/research-networks/research-committees/rc39-sociology-of-disasters/ ) and I am one of the program coordinator of the RC 39 in the next IV ISA Forum (please see: https://isaconf.confex.com/isaconf/forum2020/webprogrampreliminary/Symposium605.html). I am at the Editorial Teams of Disaster Prevention and Management Journal (https://emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/journals/editorial_team.htm?id=dpm ) and Environmental Hazards Journal (https://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/pdf/editor/tenh-board-members.pdf). My scientific life is related to disasters. From 2004 to 2011, I was researcher at Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas Sociais em Desastres, Federal University of São Carlos (NEPED/UFSCar). My PhD in Sociology (2013) was about disaster recovery process. At NEPED/UFSCar I also did my master in sociology, studying the temporary shelter in disasters (2010). I also has a Master in Human Rights, Global Risk Management and Disaster Prevention Policies (Henry Dunant Fundation-Chile, 2012). Since 2014, I am researcher at Cemaden/MCTIC, where I have been interacting with researchers from different expertise and stakeholders as civil defense officers. I am also teaching about disaster science. I am professor at the Doctorate Program on Earth System Science at the National Institute for Space Research (PGCST/INPE), and at the Postgraduate Program on Disaster Science (ICT/Unesp - Cemaden/MCTIC).
