Maria Oliveira de Souza is PhD in Physiological Sciences, a Renal Physiology area, by the University of Sao Paulo (1999), sandwich in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine -USA. She has postdoctoral degree by Johns Hopkins University-USA, working as a research associate in the Gastroenterology Division. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Biomedical Sciences Institute of the University of São Paulo. She has experience in Physiology of Organs and Systems, with emphasis on Renal Physiology. The research group aims to understand the molecular and functional mechanisms involved in acute renal failure and the progression of chronic kidney disease. In addition, it searches for identification of possible targets for the development of new therapies. She has experience in the investigation of factors associated with renal hemodynamics, glomerular lesions, tubular function and sodium transporter proteins. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
