Birthplace: Chile

Bachelor Degree in Marine Sciences (1994) and in Marine Biology (1997) from the Universidad Católica del Norte, Faculty of Marine Sciences, Coquimbo, Chile. PhD in Biological Sciences (Botany area) in 2002, in the Department of Botany, Institute of Biosciences USP. Postdoctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Marine Algae Édison José de Paula, IB-USP (2002-2004). Faculty member of the IB-USP since April 2005. My research area point out PHYCOLOGY, addressing multidisciplinary aspects related to physiology, chemistry and biochemistry, molecular biology, prospecting and mariculture of seaweeds. Some of the areas of my interest is to study aspects related to stress physiology (eg. effects of global climate changes, irradiance, UV radiation, nutrients, heavy metals, salinity, etc.). and to study the chemical biodiversity (eg, bioactive and antioxidative potential against bacteria, viruses and fungi, allelopathy, etc.) of macroalgae aiming its explotation holding in goods and services.
