Birthplace: Brazil

I am chemist from University of São Paulo since 1984 and PhD in Sciences from the Institute of Chemistry, also from University of São Paulo, since 1997. During the doctoral period, I was interested to understand the ionic exchange in micellar systems using photophysical and photochemical techniques. I was visiting scholar/postdoctoral at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Cornell University, USA (1999-2001) under the supervision of Dr. Barbara Baird studying cell-based biosensor applied to the detection of toxins, agents harmful to health and drug screening. I am professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto from University of São Paulo, since 1994, and most of my research interests focus on the discovery of new molecules able to inhibit allergic diseases, a serious problem around the world. It is also our interest to improve the bioavailability and solubility of bioactive natural compounds by incorporation in nanostructured systems such as liposomes, cyclodextrins and nanoparticles, for application in clinical therapy. Other approach of interest is the development of a mast cell-based biosensor useful in new drug discovery and detection of diseases such as dengue, zika and tuberculosis. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
