I started my career at State University of Campinas, in Brazil, studying Science Biology. On this course I discovered the Plant Molecular Biology field. During my PhD, I learned molecular biology by studying gene expression regulation of seed storage proteins in cereals. In 1998, during my first postdoctoral, in Andre Gofeau?s lab at the Université Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Nueve, Belgium, I was trained in sequencing and analyzing whole microbial genomes. From there, I returned to Brazil and spent a very productive time, from 1999 to 2001, deciphering the genomes of some plant pathogens and sugarcane crop. In 2001 I had the chance to move to Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (São Paulo Branch) and spent a very happy five years teaching myself Cancer Molecular Biology. After that, I accepted an Assistant Professor position at Federal University of São Paulo, where the main focus of my research work is the identification of new molecular markers to predict and stratify cancer patients. Since August 2012, I occupy a Visiting Professor position with Cancer and Stem Cell Biology Program at Duke NUS Graduate Medical School, in Singapore, where I am developing studies involving genomic and metabolomic characterization of gastric cancers and head and neck tumors.
