He graduated in Agronomy in 1973. Earned the Master's degree (1978) and Ph.D. (1979) in Agronomy (Soils and Plant Nutrition) from the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo. Served as a Visiting Scientist at the University of California, Davis, in 19841985. Recipient of the Moinho Santista Youth Award in 1980 and the Fernando Costa Medal for Research in 2019. Has been frequently honored by students throughout his career.He was the founder, Director, and CEO of the Foundation for Agricultural and Forestry Studies and Research and also served as Director of the Institute of Meteorological Research at UNESP. From 1995 to 2007, he served at the agricultural coordination of the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation.He organized and coordinated the Postgraduate Program in Agronomy/Agriculture at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (FCA-UNESP) for four terms and served two terms as Head of the Department of Plant Production (FCA-UNESP). He was hired as an instructor by the School of Agricultural Sciences, UNESP in I 1975 and retired as a Full Professor in 2024.He served as Vice President of the Brazilian Society of Soil Science and is currently a member of the International Plant Nutrition Council. He is also Vice President of Communications for the Scientific Council of Sustainable Agriculture and a Professor Emeritus at the University of Western São Paulo.Ranked among the most cited researchers in the field of agriculture, he has extensive experience in agricultural sciences, with a focus on soil fertility, fertilization, applied plant physiology, root development, agricultural production systems, crop rotation, and nutrient and carbon cycling. His work primarily involves crops such as cotton, soybeans, cover crops, and crop-livestock integration systems. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
