Dirce Maria Carraro holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Institute of Chemistry, University of São Paulo (1998). During her career, she actively participated in genome projects such as the Xylella fastidiosa Project and the Human Cancer Genome Project, in addition to others developed in Brazil. She is currently the principal investigator of the Clinical and Functional Genomics group and responsible for Genomic Diagnosis at the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center (ACCCC). She is a member of the board, as well as a professor and advisor, of the Antônio Prudente Foundation / ACCCC postgraduate course. She works in the area of Cancer Genetics and Genomics with a focus on transferring the new applications of genomics in oncological tests essential for personalized treatment. She develops projects in hereditary cancer and in the characterization of genomic alterations that occur during carcinogenesis and that are important in the customization of cancer treatment. She develops studies of genomic evaluations of tumor DNA in body fluids (liquid biopsy) for monitoring patients undergoing cancer treatment, surveillance of patients considered cured and investigation of mechanisms of resistance acquired during treatment. She was awarded the São Paulo Scientific and Technological Merit Award for her contribution to the Xylella fastidiosa Genome Project and the IV Octavio Frias de Oliveira Award for her scientific work (PMID: 24909261) in the Oncology Research modality (2015).
