Metabolic and molecular aspects. Significant scientific contributions: - Characterization of the role of high-fat diets in body energy homeostasis and the mechanisms involved in hypothalamic resistance to leptin and insulin. - Identification of TLR4 activation and subsequent induction of endoplasmic reticulum stress as mechanisms involved in hypothalamic resistance to leptin and insulin. Central inhibition of inflammation in DIO animals, by blocking the activation of TLR4 or ER stress was able to reverse the glucose homeostasis in part by inhibition of hepatic glucose production. - Role of hypothalamic autophagy in the regulation of glucose homeostasis induced by obesity - Characterization of the role of interesterified fat in metabolism. Interesterified soybean oil promotes weight, impaired glucose tolerance and increase liver cellular stress markers in Swiss mice. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
