Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Matemática e Estatística (IME)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

I have a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (IB-UNESP; 1983), Master's degree in Statistics (IMECC-UNICAMP, 1987), and a PhD in Statistics (IME-USP, 1997). I have participated in research collaboration programs in the areas of Design of Experiments and Multi-omic Data Analysis with the following centers: Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (SFBR, TX, USA, 2001), Mayo Clinic (MN, USA, 2013), and University of Groningen (NL, 2018). I began my teaching and research career at the Department of Statistics of UNESP-Presidente Prudente (1987), then at IMECC-UNICAMP (1992). I am currently a tenured professor at IME-USP (since 1995). My research area is Applied Probability and Statistics, with emphasis on problems in the collection, processing and analysis of Omics Data (Genome, Transcriptome, Proteome, Phenomenon, etc.). I highlight the use and development of tools based on linear mixed models and multivariate techniques considering, mainly, data with dependency structures (related individuals by declaration or with genomic dependency) and high dimension ("big-p"). I maintain research collaboration with the Laboratory of Genetics and Molecular Cardiology of InCor/USP (Corações de Baependi Project), with the Department of Nutrition of the School of Public Health of USP (ISA-Nutrition Project) and with the Department of Parasitology of ICB/USP (Malaria Risk in Amazon Communities Project).
