He holds a degree in Agronomic Engineering from the São Paulo State University (1984), a master's degree in Agrarian Sciences (Plant Physiology) from the Federal University of Viçosa (1988), PhD in Plant Biology from the State University of Campinas (1998) and postdoctoral by the University of Cadiz, Spain. He is currently a full professor at the São Paulo State University. He has experience in Physiology, with emphasis in Weed Science, working mainly on the following subjects: competition, allelopathy, herbicides, peanuts, beans and eucalyptus.
