Graduation in Civil Engineering at Federal University from Paraná (1978), master's degree in Structural Engineering at University of São Paulo/S.Carlos (1981) and PhD in Structural Engineering at University of São Paulo (1988). Post-Doctoral period at the Department of Structural Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, (1990), working by supervision of Prof.Giulio Maier. Visiting Scholar at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA (2008). Presently is Full Professor of the Structural Engineering Department of the University of São Paulo at São Carlos. His present researches activities include cooperations with abroad institutions as Politecnico di Milano, Italy, Laboratoire de Mechanique et Technologie LMT-Cachan, France, Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The researches activities are focusing on the following subjects: Mechanics of materials (Damage Mechanics and plasticity), nonlinear structural analysis, numerical methods (non-conventional and generalized finite element method).
